I was wondering how you tell if A SHBA is infi or A2?
Mine has Asymetrical edge and slotted screws.

The timeline on when you bought it would be helpful .... I know you have a SHBM and all of those were Infi .... did you get the SHBA after the SHBM ?

Well these models are a little before my time in knowing Busse knives .... but I would say there is a strong liklihood it is Infi .... in the past when a few questions like this have been raised Jerry has come on and asked things like have you removed the handles and is the knife coated underneath etc .... maybe he can say for definate ... but if he had moved over to Infi for the BM's I think the SHBA will be Infi also .... and if it has the ASM grind you have a real "gem" IMO .... your SHBM is'nt ASM as well is it ?

Ah well ..... no worries .... I am already blown away by the fine "threesome" you have and you use them as well so will understand the high regard I hold for an ASM grind .... had you got an ASM SHBM AND A ASM SHBA .... well I would have just gone a shade greener with envy than I might already be ... lol ....

Of the guys who know the old stuff well .... Papathud is very knowledgeable .... Lil Foo is as well and Randucci has a great regard for the SHBA and they are likely to be able to say for sure .... Bravado had a load of SHBM's but not sure if he also collected the SHBA's .... but there are plenty of HOGS who are likely to be able to say for sure ....

I THOUGHT (don't quote me) the INFI SHBA's were the "skinny" ones.

How thick is taht one? .30's are A2, I think. .25's are A2 and INFI. That'll help get close. . . I think.

Where IS Mulder? FWIW, anyone seen Scully? Hubba hubba.

Im going to have to get a caliper to measure it.
The BM appears to be 1/4"
And the BA is slightly smaller.

I also thought that the screws were the tell-

Slotted was INFO and smooth were A2?

Oh well, mulder will come along and answer all of our questions!

From the pic my guess would be that your's is INFI.

I'm not an expert but did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

But just in case send it to me for proper disposal.

Hollow tube fasteners are all supposed to be made from INFI. The slotted fasteners is where it gets tricky. With the exception of the Mistresses, no Mistress was made from A2....(I suspect that there may be a proto A2 mistress floating around), there are some transition knives floating around that are INFI and A2 with slotted fasteners.

But back to your question. It appears that your spine is uncoated. See if gun blue will stick to it. Gun blue does not stick to INFI well at all.

I concur with Mulder.
Large talon holes, slotted, looks like there might be dimples under the coating on the ricasso and tail. The slabs contours are very clean and refined.

I would say it's INFI but it really doesn't matter. Jerry's A2 is incredible.

Is the original kydex sheath any indication of Infi over the older eagle cordura sheath. My SHSHII slotted bolts is A-2 with the eagle cordura sheath. It also has the small talon hole.

No one thought in the old days to look at the sharpening grinds to check for INFI.

I think, in retrospect that I do not ever remember seeing an asym original factory sharpening on any A-2 Busse knife.

All of the A-2 that I have, or remember was pretty evenly sharpened one side to the other.

On the other hand, I have imbibed a bit since then.

On the other, other hand, that looks to be the most common INFI Straight Badger, the Tube handle faster, while first tested by Busse on the Straight Badger, It was also the first of the straight handles to go out of production.

If and when I ever actually find my notes I will be able to say just how long the straight Badger with the Tube handle fastener was produced.

Not long I think.

I had to check my SHBA for the INFI dimples. Because my BBSHSH has dimples. Looks like on other knives the dimples were ground even on the flats. (No wonder we went to crinkle finish!)

Lucky INFI SHBA owner!
