First time poster here. I need help placing a value on a Shadow I I've had for over 15 years probably. It's a combination South African and American production. The actual knife is stamped made in USA, serial number 8. The cap on the hollow handle is the hexagonal South African style and the water buffalo sheath is stamped made in South Africa. It's in the original plain white box with the blue seal and half typed, have hand written tag taped to the end identifying the model and serial number. Inside is an old catalog with a separate insert for the Sebenza and Project I and a paper mail in knife order form. There is also a price list for January 92 inside. The knife was bought new and never sharpened. There is some wear on the edges of the cap but the knife is as new with the only other wear being from taking it out to look at it. My question is two parts. One is there any additional value in this knife's dual citizenship/low serial number. If so whats it worth? Two, I've always wanted a Sebenza but have not wanted to foot the bill. Should I sell or trade this off to facilitate a Sebbie? I bought this knife thinking I'd use it in the Army but just could not bring myself to scratch it up. I wound up carrying a Randall 14 around the world for the next decade plus instead. I'm sure I feel some regret getting rid of this knife at some point but I've really always wanted that Sebenza since I first saw a guy opening a gun box at the Charlotte Gun Show years ago. Any advice??

I love the Shadow I. Its my favorite of the CRK One-Piece line. I have 2 of them and would not part with either. It is a big knife though and is primarily a camping type knife and is kinda big for the smaller jobs. My first one was $405, its a much newer version and it was NIB. My second is kinda like yours. Says made in US Its #166. It has a round butt and the lighter KG Kote. I got it for $270 no box, but in mint condition. When Chris moved from SA to the US, they used up some of the parts they had left over, hence the lower numbers having a hex butt. I have 2 hex butt SA one piece, but they are not a shadow I. They made the Shadow I up until last year, so I would say its not worth a ton more like the jereboam sawtooth and a couple other of they quit making 15 years or so ago. If there is a big time collector out there, they may give you more since it has all the paper work, but they may be hard to come by. I would say its worth at least $400 +. If your interested in a Sebenza, you should be able to trade even for one. I have a large or small you might be interested in. PM me and let me know what your looking for. If you wanna hang onto it, thats cool too. The one-piece line is going to end this year, so the value will only go up. So you cant lose either way. Keep it or trade it for a sebenza. You cant go wrong.

Thanks for the info. I was not aware that the one piece line was ending. I guess I'll hang onto it for a few more years then and see what happens. I guess I gotta start saving for that Sebenza then. I like its simple lines. Large Classic or 21 plain jane. Never cared much for the decorated ones.
