Hello all,

I use a shadow IV with a blade of 4" with a kydex sheath from Piter (a great working, very nice)- I want a camp knife for chopping,... and I hesitate between the shadow I or the Project I.
What's your advice ?

Probably not what you want to hear. Get a good hatchet to accompany your Shadow IV and you'll be good to go.

Tops 9.5" condor = 26oz (1 lb, 10 oz)

Ka-Bar camp knife = 14.4oz (.9 lb )

Ka-Bar Kukri = 20.16 ( 1.26 lb )

Fiskars 14" hatchet = 14 oz head ( .875 lb )

With the extra 2oz the plastic handle on those fiskars hatchets would add, i can see why you would opt for the knife over one. They are so much heavyer.

I understand with the hatchet we have the same weight that the knife.
What is the utility of a shadow I or Project I in the field ?
Thanks for yours advices.

KK, You absolutely right about Fiskers and Gerber. Fiskers owns Gerber. I bought a Fiskers hatchet for $14.00 @ Lowes hardware, while the same one with Gerber's name on it goes for $40.00. Different color handle is all......

Basicaly the same as any other large fixed blade. You can could split logs with a lot more effort than your hatchet, you could chop down sapplings with a lot more effort than your hatchet, you could butcher game with a lot more effort than your hatchet, ect. ect.

A hatchet and a smaller utility knife, IMO, are the best choice for the woods. Unless you need a machete for heavy brush, Leave the big knives to Rambo. Just for the record, even a 12" knife makes a crappy machete.
