Shadow III and Small Sebenza: very nice combo for hiking

I think I may have found my favorite hiking/backpacking combo. I wanted something lightweight and compact to carry with me when the wife and I go day hiking and some overnight backpacking. Thought about a small fixed blade with a larger fixed blade but then realized for what I need I would be fine with a small fixed blade and a folder. If anything I would have a small hatchet for anything else, or my khukuri.

I love my Small 21 Sebenza and carry it as my main edc everywhere, so when I was thinking of a folder to bring day hiking the small 21 seemed perfect. Extremely strong and durable, good blade, and light.

But sometimes I still would just like a fixed blade, and thats where the Shadow III comes in.

Nice size of just enough but not too big. I chose the spear point Shadow III over the Mountaineer because the Small 21 can take care of any slicing or fine cutting, and then the Shadow with the more stout spear point for things I would not to use the Small 21 for. The storage in the handle, while small, is great for hiking as I can carry some minor survival stuff in there. I have small hands so as you can see the handle is fine for me. I am glad I got the single guard version though because for many of my grips I use my thumb on the spine.

With the supplied pancake sheath it is comfortable and easy to access either. I am considering getting a kydex sheath for the Shadow, but am undecided and also unsure who to contact for one.

You need to get one of PiterM's sheaths; then you can have your Shadow & Sebbie in one sheath. Here is a picture of mine.

Nice combo - where & when did you get that Shadow III? They usually have two cross guards - I see yours has one.

Thats a GREAT Combo, Perfect for your hiking adventures. I have 2 shadow III, both double guard versions and they are awsome. I carry my first one all through hunting season around the cabin and use it for nearly everything and the pancake sheath is awsome as it keeps the knife out of the way, but nice and close that you know its there. My second one I got for a price I could not pass up. New Graham Knives has the single guard shadow III for those that are interested for the same price as the double guard. I too prefer the spearpoint to the others. Its not that I dislike the others, but I just think the spearpoint is tougher than the clip point mountaineer I & II. The sebenza is definately the perfect compliment and will work great when a finer blade is needed.:thumbup:

Thanks for the info nyefmaker.
I agree a 4 inch fixed - spear or clip, no matter - with a sebby - as good as it gets.

It'll be sad to see the fixed blades go.

Your Welcome, Anytime.......I am already bummed the One-Piece line is going away. I understand Chris's reasoning, but its still going to be tough. The One-Piece line is what made me aware of CRK. My First CRK .........A Shadow III !!!

That is actually what first got me looking at the hollow handled CRKs. I knew that they were going to be discontinued and figured this was a good time to get the exact one I wanted before availability or price became an issue.

They are truly unique at the price for their quality and single piece design with hollow handle, truly a bargain considering that equal quality alternatives are more expensive.
