Shadow IV Sheath Suggestions

Looking for something that will hold the knife more securely and be more weather resistant than the factory sheath. Something that holds the knife high on the belt and snug up close against the body would be ideal. I also prefer not to send the knife away if possible. I have considered Bladetech among others including one of our fellow forumites who seems to do excellent work with Kydex based on the pictures I have seen of his work so far. Also kinda wondering how the BlackHawk Industries Airborne DeLuxe sheath that CRK uses on the 5.5" Green Beret would fit the Shadow IV. I would love to hear your suggestions and/or opinions. ...Thanks

Funny you should ask this. Just today I tried the Shadow IV in the 5.5" Green Beret Sheath. I thought it would be a great pair, it did look good but it did not hold secure at all. The retention strap hit too high and would not adjust tight enough. I would get a kydex sheath from PiterM on here if you want security. I have one for my Mountaineer II and it holds very well. Lots of other kydex makers out there but this one I can suggest because I am familier with it. Hope this helps.

That's what I was afraid of. Thanks for sharing your experience. Knowing this in advance will save me both time and money.

Only going from personal use, I think that caine made an excellent point about survival sheath. Great products and he has a lot of knives in stock, so you might not have to send it away. The sheaths are excellent and I have one that I have had on my pack for sometime, and it is excellent.

Spec-ops brand also has a great sheath in the combat master. I have one right now for one of my knives (not CRK), and it holds up super well and has lots of room for added kit. It doesn't ride high however.

Kydex, you might want to try Piter, he looks to be building some fantastic stuff, and once again, you might not need to send him the knife.

Thanks for kind words... well, indeed I try to keep some Chris Reeve fixed blades on stock. Shadow IV is also here. And just an example of Shadow IV kydex you can find HERE

That is a great looking sheath and it looks like it would hold the knife pretty high on the belt/waist line when used with a TekLok for belt carry. The reason I want the sheath to ride snug to the body is so it doesn't bounce around a lot when jogging or jumping like the factory sheath tends to do. The reason I want it to ride high on the body is so it doesn't stick out too much below the line of an untucked shirt. I don't mind it sticking out. I just find that when a knife only sticks out a little it gives other people the impression that it's a smaller knife when we cross paths along the trail. Being able to use some paracord loops to go IWB is a nice feature too though I think 90% of the time I would use a sheath like this high and OWB with TekLok.
