Hi all,

Kelly Girl and I went for a little walk in the woods down by the river
near the town that we live in.

As we were walking through the woods by a creek that runs into the river.
The sun was at my back and I took this pic and Shadow Man came to mind.

Being the first to break trail in forest of shadows is pretty cool I think. No human foot prints
but mine.

Besides just going for a walk in the woods I wanted to have a little fire and roast
a few hot dogs too. So at this point just click on the pic below and it will explain
a few things.

Ok now that you know what I planned to do. Once I got to that downed tree. I scooped out a little area for where
my fire would be. I cut some mullberry branches with my hand saw and then used my version of the Tracker knife that I made to spilt the sawed round down into some split wood and then some kindling and then into fuzz sticks

With my wood prepared I set up a teepp fire set up and with the flick of my bick
My fire was on it way.

While my fire was going I decided it was a prefect time to go and cut a hot stick.
and get to roasting my hot dogs.

As if on cue once the hot dogs were done Kelly Girl showed up for a afternoon snack.

After the snack I grabbed a mullberry branch and decided to try out the
staggered saw tooth configuration that I am able to have milled into the spine.
fellow forum member harpoon asked me to make video of the saw in action.
Again just click on the pic and the video should play.

After making sure my fire was out Kelly Girl and I headed on back home She led the way.

We had a pretty good time out on a sunny winter day here in my neck of the woods.

Thanks for looking comming along on our walk in the woods.

Bryan

That tracker of yours is coming along fine Bryan. Looks like you and Kelly Girl and a great time.
Thanks for posting.

Hi all,

Thanks all for the kind words. Yea KG and had a great time out. anytime there is fire, knives and hotdogs you can not go wrong.
Caine as to posting bigger pics I will have to change the setting on my camera. I will try and do that sometime but until then
Here is pic of the next one that I will get made. The blackened one has the saw part closer to the handle area and the battoning area it near the tip. Also the saw portion is a little longer on this one.

anyways I will get it finished up and do another shadow man thread:D

Bryan

Thanks Bryan looking good! The second variant looks more interesting.

I gotta say....how can you stand that orange stuff?

Great post as always Bryan.

That Tracker looks sweet, I still think having the saw part closest to the handle makes most sense, let us know what you think after trying it both ways !

Give Kelly girl a big hug for me !!!

Mike, Thanks. Yea I think have the saw teeth closer to the handle is pretty cool also.
I can see both ways with the saw teeth. It is just another option I will offer.
As to the orange handles. I love them for non tactical situations. If I set my knife down
it is easy to see it right away lol.
I even have some orange shirts lol. I love the color. It has its place. Well I think that anyways.

Pitdog I was wondering when you were going to post.
Yea will do when I get the second one done I will let you know what I think. I have tried both saws
variations and they both work just fine. even with out a handle.

I will give her a big one for ya lol

Chat with you later,

Bryan

I like the Orange for wilderness use

Post some larger photos of the WSK when you can Bro

Great post Bryan! Looks like you and 'Ol Kelly Girl had a nice time out on a wintery picnic! I'm sure she enjoyed those roasted hot-dogs as much (or more!) than you!

Your upgraded WSK design looks to function really well. I've no doubt as to it's sharp edge! I do prefer your more recent re-design and eagerly await it's completion and your field-testing.

Good stuff my friend!

Hi all,

Frank, thanks for the kind words. It was fun time out. KG did enjoy the hotdogs. I took 3 hotdogs, but roasted 2 to begin with.
As we eat those 2, I thought KG might go and wander around some more, while cook the last one and have it all for me.
No so she sat right there as if she knew what I was planning. I even acted like I was going to cut up some more wood.
She did not fall for it and so I just cooked the last one and well we both enjoyed it lol.

Well I worked on the second one some more today
Cleaned up the grinds some.

And then got started on a third one.
This is what it looks like next to a pic of Dave Becks tracker knife.

IMG_1206.jpg

It is a basic shape I still got plenty to do with it yet.

anyways all take care,

Bryan

I'd still like a leaned out one with a blade around 4", handle around 4 1/2" with a primitive hemp/resin wrap, similar to the one he forged in the movie ' The Hunted '.

Maybe I'll start saving my pennies up Bryan !

4" blade:eek: :D
Draw up a pic and send it to me so I can see just what you are thinking.

Is there a saw area on your version?

saving your pennies:thumbup:.

Bryan

I think the like the saw/serrations closer to the tip. More leverage and reach. Either way, nice work :)

Lotusblade, Thanks. I kind of like it too:)

Thanks J T, I have been messing with both designs. got the handles on the second one today. It has the saw portion closer to the handle. In my testing of them with out handles it seems to me that the saw closer to the handle gets more pressure to it than if the saw is out towards the tip.

Anyways they both work. I mean this saw is not for sawing trees down. but for making notches. i tell ya they are quick for making a notch for pail handles on a pot. a few strokes back and forth on the stick and then you can hang your pail for cooking over a fire.

Anyways thanks again for the kind words all.

Bryan

Hi all,

Well I have a green handled version done. Did a little video also of using the knife as a bearing for the bow drill.

IMG_1216.jpg

Here is the video, Just click on the pic and it will play the video.

Then a pic of the orange handle one and the green handle one together before it goes bye bye to its new owner.
