I've set my sights on a new Shadow III or maybe IV AND a Skinner. Any feedback from users of these is most welcomed!

They sound very nice. I used to be into Randalls, but have switched gears to what i hope is BETTER! :-)

Depends on what you are going to use them for. I have a Shadow IV and think it's great, but though I take it hunting sometimes, I do not use it for dressing and skinning. I use the Shadow IV primarily as a camping utility knife. I like the balance of the knife, good for light chopping and the spear point as it is more rugged, IMO, than a clip. Those virtues do not come without trade-off.

Now that I said all of that, CR One Piece Range are great knives with a great company behind them. Just pick out one trhat you like and is reasonably suited for your intended purposes; you will not be sorry.

For dressing and skinning I like the Wegner folder and usually carry that as well. If I am not camping and have no use for a utility knife I will bring a fixed blade designed for game chores. If I had a CR Skinner, that's what I would bring, but I don't a$ yet.

For dressing and skinning, you are probably better off with a knife dedicated in design for those purposes, like the CR Skinner or others, but those designs come with their own trade-offs.

Good point.... "what my uses will be".

I guess I would use it maybe for hiking/camping... just all around outdoors stuff. I also have a Nimravous Cub.... and this fall I was thinking of using that for deer and maybe even my Ares Folder!

So.. for the Shadow III it would be an all around knife. Maybe I should go UP in size to the IV since I have the cub....

Now that you have said that, for hiking and camping, I would not hesitate on the Shadow IV, unless backpack camping, where weight is a consideration, where I might consider the III.

For camping I like the Shadow IV or P-1.

The Nimravous, as with many other smaller knives, will do fine for deer sized game, leaving the utility work to a utililty knive, e.g. Shadow IV.

I've had a shadow III for about six months now and have worn it everyday except for 2 days during that period. It is small enough to be comfortable as an everyday carry and is not heavy. Another point to make is that in some states or even municipalities there is a maximum blade length for public carry. For instance in Texas the legal limit is 5.5 in. but in the city of San Antonio it is 4 in. Of course while on the ranch or private property, the sky is the limit. I use my shadow III everyday as a utility knife but when i go hunting(deer and wild hog) i usually take a Mountaineer II. I just purchased a Project 1 and am anxious to test it for camping on the ranch. The project I might be too big for hiking in a National Park etc. The shadow III is my favorite daily carry Knife even more than my Sebenza, which I consider a back-up.
