Hello, All -

On a shadow pattern slipjoint, the pins are just peened into the handle material (same as on a knife with bolsters), but the pivot usually has a washer around it. What is that washer called? And where can you source them in nickel silver? Or do you make your own? Are there any tips and tricks as to outside diameter, thickness, anything else needed for putting these to use?

Thanks!

You mill a pocket for the disc.
The discs are cut from any rod material you wish

when ready, grind flush, taper the hole and peen. Hide the pin and it comes out like this

I call it a bird's eye pivot, though that may not be the exact nomenclature everyone else uses. I do mine pretty much like Adam, using a piloted counterbore to mill the pocket into my handle covers, then I using precision ground stock of the same OD as the counterbore to make my "washers". I center drill the stock on the lathe, ream to my pin size, cut them just a little bit long, flatten with a pivot/bushing lap so that the bottom is square. Once I have my rough washer prepped, I'll press them into my pockets with a little bit of CA glue, then ream the top with a tapered pin reamer.
