Just had a thought ...

There have been a few posts lately about cleaning knives and it seems that washing them is warm soapy water often does the trick.

What about one of those ultrasound cleaners where you put whatever you want cleaned in a bath of water and then ultrasound is beamed through it all and shakes all the crap off. Used for jewellry so I believe.

How do you reckon it would go with a folding knife?

Might be worth a try. I'd be leery of trying it on anything delicate like MOP or old ivory though but I guess that goes without saying.

They work great. I work for a jewelry mfgr. and have acess to ultrasonic cleaners. For a good cleaning, it only takes a minute or two. I don't know about ivory, but MOP shouldn't be a problem, jewelry often has pearls in it and they fare in an USC just fine. One word of warning, being around a USC for extended periods of time (way longer than it would take to clean a knife or two) can pose a hearing hazard.
