Shallot disassembly question

I know this is a silly question, but I really need some advice about it, so I don't have to send it back to Kershaw again.

I tried to remove the pivot screw first and the backside just keeps spinning.
I tried pressing on the back with my thumb and turning the screw and couldn't hold it.
I tried pressing a tool against the round backside and turning the screw, still spins.

I even tried taking out all the frame screws and squeezing the frame sides together and apart to hold the pivot screw, still no go.

I guess my final step would be to fire up an air compressor and try power tools, last resort.

Any advice?

I've dealt with a few leeks and shallots. Either use a rubber band to help grip it, put the rubber band on a finger and press it against the backside. If that doesn't work, try opening in it and then setting the side of the blade against a phonebook, and with that, apply downwards pressure as to where you are trying to get the knife to flex. It should grip the bolt then. If I had pics, I'd post them. Hope this helps.

I had the same problem awhile back. I remedied it by holding the knife with the pivot screw facing towards you, knife open and pressing the open blade against my dresser(Flat side against the wood) with a bit of force while turning the torx bit. The pressure from the blade will transfer into the pivot thus spreading the scales apart and putting pressure on the pivot. This isn't a very good explanation ( i've had a lot of coffee:))

This is a much better explanation:thumbup:

I'll try the rubber band thing. If that doesn't work I'll try holding the blade and pressing down on the handle while I am trying to unscrew it.

I think there was fresh lock tight in there and its just being a PITA to loosen.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

The rubber band didn't do much, BUT leaning on it to flex at the pivot worked out for me.

I had a bad torsion bar, the metal was cracked. I replaced it. I couldnt get the knife centered when closed but remain loose enough to pop open. The blade touches the torsion bar cavity cover.

I noticed a weird abnormality I think, has anybody else noticed a hole from the torsion bar cavity to where the pivot screw goes? See pic.

Maybe that hole is to let grease from the torsion bar cavity to underneath the pivot screw so the screw can rotate with the blade if need be, basically to keep the flipping action smooth and free.

Im surprised somebody else has the hole too, I thought it was a fluke.
