i' m thinking of buying my first kershaw as soon as possible, and i think the shallot would be a good start.but now i would like some information on this knife.can i think of it as an oversized leek?(which looks a little too small for my needs). And what about the steel, 13C26, i' ve never used that steel before, can i hear some opinions on that too, please?

13C26 is a fine steel...sharp, holds that edge decently well, and isn't too difficult to sharpen.

The Shallot in my opinion isn't anything like the Leek...much heavier...larger...blade and handle shapes totally different. Still a great knife, though. The Leek is more knife than it seems at first glance, but may still be too small for your needs. Of course, the ideal is to find a walk-in shop with both in stock and try them out.

ok thanks, any comments on how tough it is, blade thickness?

The basic model is solid steel except for a G10 spacer at the spine that the 3 frame screws travel through...lock style is frame lock, lockup is rock solid...pretty tough. The blade at its thickest is about 0.125 of an inch...about 1/8".

Just an FYI...knife is flipper-only...no thumbstuds...the flipper is as high up on the spine as it can be, and took a little getting used to.

sounds nice, i guess i' ll buy one tomorrow, and i' ll look into a local knifeshop for a leek too, but the only knifeshop around has a small selection.they probably wont have any kershaws at all, ah well.thanks for the information:cool:
