A few months back I was driving a taxi for a living. At the end of a shift I found a Kershaw Shallot in my back seat. Score for me. Anyway, whoever the previous owner was they clearly couldn't tell the differnce between torq and allen screws cuz they rounded the screws out for the pocket clip and now I can't reverse the clip for tip up carry. Any suggestions?

thats a tough one... theres drill bits you can buy for big screws that basically grab onto a striped bolt and you can get a grip on the screw until it comes out... i dont know if they make one for that tiny of a screw, but you could look.. also i had that happen to me and i just got desperate and used needle nose pliers to grab on to the screw and turn it.. it chewed the hell out of the screws but i got it eventually... good luck with it, thats always a tough one to figure out!

ya, I have a set of extractor bits, but nothing anywhere near this small. I've tried grabbing them with my leatherman but the heads are so shallow and round I can't get a decent grip on them.

I'm starting to consider just destroying the heads, grinding them flat to get the clip off, then grind them flush with the frame and replace the screws to re-mount the clip for tip up. Just not sure where I'd get the right screws.

give Kershaw a call, they'll probably send you a set of hardware for free, they are nice like that, they might even toss in a new clip and spare torsion bar for you.

You can order spare parts on Kershaws website.

To get them out, what I have done before is use a hack saw to cut a place to use a flathead screw driver.

If you ask nice, Kershaw might even send you a new frame piece, or you could send it to them and ask them to fix it.

yeah kershaw has been maintaining a couple of my knives for at least 2 years now, just ones that i actually care about... so im sure they would help you out.. they are super nice, they even replaced a blade on my one of my leeks when i snapped the tip free of charge because i had sent it in so may times before.. so give them a shot
