Some additional notes:
  • Buying both is not an option; you can only buy one or the other.
  • Assume that enough time has passed so that the prices of both knives have declined to a steady state value.
  • Feel free to assume either that both knives are available again through BHQ and St. Nick's (where you will buy one at the actual retail price) OR that both knives are available on the secondary market (where you will pay typical secondary market rates when they reach steady state prices).
  • I set the voting poll so that you cannot change your vote and so that you can only see results after you vote, both of which I think will lead to voting results that are less influenced by the opinions of others. (Please let me know if you cannot see the results after you vote.)

4V, I like it better than M4. I've got a few Big Chris fixed blades in 4V. Absolutely the best steel I've ever had despite not being very stain resistant.
In reality, I'll never have a Shaman in 4V, I'm not fighting the flippers when they are released and I'm damn sure not going to pay the price the lowlife, lower than dog crap flippers sell them at.

Don't forget the Cruwear version is coming out soon. I'd go for that one, since it comes with a micarta handle.

Looking purely at the steel, it depends if you want toughness or wear resistance. Assuming optimal heat treats, then in order of wear resistance, it should be M4 > 4V > Cruwear. Given that, the Shaman is designed to be a hard use knife, and for pure wear resistance, you'd want a PM2 in Maxamet, I'd still go with the Cruwear version of the Shaman, for toughness.

St Nick's for looks. My favorite color combo.
Bhq if I'm actually going to use it. M4 is my favorite steel.

This very reason is why I bought both a dlt red PM2, and a bhq dlc m4 PM2, and made my own perfect pm2.

Red scales and dlc coated m4 blade. The Grail PM2.

I'm a fan of DLC and M4 so until BHQ releases their DLC version I'm going to have to choose the 4V even though I don't like the red scales.

BHQ M4 would be my pick. I like both steels, but vastly prefer uncoated over DLC. Not to mention the jade scales can be dyed almost any color.

Id skip both and wait for Satin Cru wear and Micarta :) Second choice is DLC M4 and Jade.

I have no experience with 4V and I dont like red handles.

I like M4, and I like 4V. I dislike jade green (natural) G10, but I like red g10. I like satin, not really a fan of dlc. I'd say cruwear & micarta for the win... if I had any intention of buying a shaman.

If we're talking about a folder, it's going to be M4. I'd take a fixed blade in 4V, though.
