Shaman Rex45 Lock Face. Problem or Normal

Hello together,

I wanted to know if the lock face of my Rex 45 Shaman is normal or if that is an issue. The problem I have is that under quite a bit of force I can achieve horizontal blade play. Is that corner on the blade's lockface wanted from factory? The liner is not able to travel above that step. What are your opinions?

Thanks and best regards,
Oliver

I would also ask on the Spyderco subforum - folks there seem to know more, Sal Glesser himself helps people out and posts.

How much force? I've had the tiniest hints of play when I put "quite a bit" of horizontal force on a comp lock.

So that is a CQI they added to the compression lock. Basically people were doing spine wacks and some of the locks would slip. That step now catches the lock bar and keeps the knife from closing.

I wish Forged in Fire would do more spine whacking in their tests. Maybe have a Whacking Day special?

Anyway I suspect what the OP is feeling is lockbar flex. The fix for that is a fixed blade.

As if J Neilson needs any more ideas!

Thanks for the answeres, I meant vertical blade play.

Oh I thought you asked about the step in the lock face. It should be locking up above the step. But also how much force are you putting on the knife and in what direction? Force on the edge or on the spine?

Judges: Oh, Whacking Day, Oh, Whacking Day, Our hallowed blades go cracking-Day.

J Neilson: We'll break their spines, Gouge out their edges, Their evil handles We'll pulverize.

Judges: Oh, Whacking Day, Oh, Whacking Day, May God bestow His Grace on thee.

I had to go and watch clips of that episode, lol it was great.
