Well, I vaguely remember when this was announced and thought it looked good, but too similar to the Native, which for some strange reason I could never fully appreciate or like, I had two types of the Native and in my hand it was a bad fit for me, which is weird as the entire world/Earth really loves the Native so much there have been many many iterations of it and high praise, so, I know that it is just me.

Which brings us to the Shaman, again my eyes told me I like the overall shape, both blade and handle, but the history of the Native held me back from trying one out, no local knife stores makes it hard to get a sense of the actual knife. But I was fortunate enough to trade into this one, the blade has some funky finish problems in the stonewash, both sides about the same area about 1 1/2" from the tip going from spine to edge like a heavy rub mark on both sides, doesn't affect it's cutting ability nor can you feel it by touch, just funky looking. I wasn't overly concerned as the fellow warned me ahead of time and as long as it wasn't any deep scratches I figured that was ok as I planned on using the knife.

Well the knife arrived, she was in great need of sharpening and it took an exceptional edge and now press cuts and slices like crazy. And the handle contours are excellent, for what ever reason, being larger, slight angle difference between this and a Native, what ever it is, I do like the Shaman and it is a good fit to my hands, strong cutter too.

I'm still getting use to this upside down liner lock, or compression lock as it is called, but that too is growing on me. I did remove the washers and gave them a very light polish and now the blade opens very smoothly and locks up secure.

Nice one Sal and Crew, I see there is talk of sprint runs, I would expect that would go over really well, my one critique would be to grind her down a little thinner than this one, if the steel you choose can support it, as this was a little thick bte but after reprofiling it does cut much better.

Nice knife, I hope she hangs around a good long time.

I'm waiting on the Sprint runs in different steels and handle Materials for a better value.

You are missing out, it’s a great blade... I will be really disappointed if the sprint ends up being S90V. The thick blade stock, durable stonewashed finish and comfortable ergonomics make it a great working tool.

I would love to see a sprint or dealer exclusive in Cruwear and someday I’ll convince somebody to make denim Micarta scales

Nice Sal, it’s a very dependable feeling folder!
Love to see some pics of your special one

Glad you like it Gary! The longer you carry the better it seems to fit what you generally need a knife for. It is so comfortable and despite the thicker spine it doesn't seem to hold it back any. I love the black G10 a lot. Who knew smooth G10 could grip so well. Its a homerun design and I hope its here to stay.

I’m loving the Shaman and posted a little comparison with the Manix 2 in the review section. Feels so great in the hand.

Wow . . . your first compression lock. How did that happen ? !
Seriously better than a liner lock. Though I have several liner locks that cause no problem and work great I think in the long run the compression lock is the way to go. it tends to be more accessible to the fingers than a liner lock to.
anyway . . . that's not what we are talking about is it ?

Thanks for putting up this post of the Shaman. I glanced at it when it came out and though it should be pretty far up my alley (rounded and sculpted handles) I was looking in different directions at the time; narrower blades; think Pattada.

Some how I had forgotten it was a compression lock. I can do without more back locks / I have many / I enjoy the fun factor of the compression lock.

Sounds great to me and I often enjoy the blue handled Spydercos.

Yep first one to own, I handled a ParaMilitary a long time ago but wasn't keen on it, still getting use to this one.

Beautiful knife. Though I've never handled one yet, it looks very comfortable in hand.

I've been considering getting a Shaman for some time now, but wouldn't mind waiting until the regular steel for the Shaman is possibly changed to S35VN, or maybe even M390, or...? Not that I have any problems with S30V, and I'm really not a steel snob; I just have a lot more knives in S30V than in S35VN, and zero knives in M390.

Then again, I may end up not waiting. ;)

I'll bet that's a nice one Sal, the G10 is a little smooth but that does provide a nice grip as the contours help keep the knife under control.

Here's a couple short videos, as you can see she opens smoothly and falls shut just as smooth. And of course, cuts effortlessly ;)

I just got one on New Year’s Eve, love everything about it except for that little nub hitting my finger when closing one handed. Does this not bother anyone else or is there a solution other than two handed closing?

ya it’s a nuisance but I benefit from never owning a compression lock

I’ve forgotten about this since I adjusted my technique slightly. Try moving you index finger away from the lock once the blade starts closing. No more nuisance.

A common lament. Maybe CQI will knock that forward guard down a notch, although I'm sure Sal and Co. knew of the issue and needed to go forward as is, for design considerations.

Cruwear please! I got a PM2 couple months ago with Cruwear and it is great steel, would be perfect for the heavy duty Shaman!

Looks a little "chubby" to me but it's on my buy list as a larger derivative of the Native 5 and a potential companion to the Native 5 S90V fluted CF Sprint that I already own.

Update 1/6/2019:

Just bought 1 off the Exchange to pair w/my Native 5. So, I'll find out shortly, if I actually like it or not.
