There's a certain one up for sale, catching my eye that I am tempted by.

Do I need a Shaman in my life ?
I currently own about 25 spyders... is this one model a must ?

Thanks guys

So, for collector "need" , absolutely ! LOL . ;)

Functionally , as a utility knife , IMO it's all about the handle ergonomics . Nice full grip handle for hard , extended work .

I don't own one . Outside my budget .

I do have a Cold Steel Bush Ranger folder , that I consider comparable in POU and in some ways superior and much cheaper .:thumbsup:

In my experience, "one up for sale, catching my eye that I am tempted by" can quickly turn to "I MUST HAVE!!!" if you sleep on it too long and it becomes unavailable. Just a thought, I've not had a Shaman myself.

Counter opinion here: the shaman is the most disappointing Spyderco I've bought yet, and compared with any of their other models I'd say it's definitely not a must. It's fun to play with and feels nice in hand until you actually put a lot of force into the handle for long periods of time, at which point the compression lock cutout area, clip, and palm swell cause issues. I'm hoping aftermarket scales and a deep carry clip help. YMMV but I think this one is a lot of hype and not much substance.

I equate Spyderco with cutting performance, but not necessarily folders that equate to prolonged heavy power cuts.

The Shaman seems to want to bridge that gap into Cold Steel territory with beefier components and scales. However, as marrenmiller marrenmiller noted, the compression lock is a hot spot, so imho sorta negates the point.

Despite that, it is an attractive piece, and I have seen other BF members experience good results with the Shaman.

I say if it calls to you, go for it.

No . . I'm Not a collector.
I just like nice knives and carry one a day.

Then, no, you don't "need" a Shaman. Whether you still want one, nonethless, is another matter.

BTW, I do consider myself a collector and own over 160 Spydercos, including 2 Shaman -- a G10 S30V and a CF S90V, and IMO they're all "nice" knives. ;)

It’s over 5 oz and a pocket hog. In spite of superlative ergonomics, the answer for me is ‘no.’

If I needed another burly folder, the answer would be ‘maybe.’
Big folder I have big beef folder covered with another pocket hog. Though I do still love it.

Appreciate the input.
I'll sit on this one.

Unless it's late and I make bad decisions 🤪

I've been wanting a shaman for "like forever" (approximately 4 weeks). I saw one at the local shop and loved it... Bought a Benchmade Claymore, damn snappy auto. Did more side work and went back to buy a shaman.... Left with an Osborne. Osborne to small returned it to buy a shaman... Left with a Native chief black cpm-m4 jade g10. Went back again left with a Becker Bk9. Did a set of brakes on a coworkers truck and fixed a snowblower at lunch today. Will be heading back for a shaman.... Unless I end up with a skrama... But really it's down to those two... And I'm out of side jobs for knife money for awhile. Really though crazy happy with the native chief. Ground it to 15 dps yesterday and it cuts great.

Native chiefs are nice I have two of those.
There are about six that get the most attention.

Threes an exclusive shaman I really liked.
I just don't need it, let me know what you think if you pick one up.

This is my experience as well. The clip bothers me most of all (but the comp lock area is a close second), and I've never had a other Spyderco where the clip is an issue.

I don't own a Shaman myself, but these two gents, there are no lies being told here. I'd say get it, so you're not stuck with regret. It's only money, friend.
