I just got an arcteryx Theta AR and am blown away... Its black by the way. I have always been pretty faithful to north face summit series, but arcteryx is just amazing!!! Anyone have any opinions/experience with both?

I got mine as well. Unfortunately being August in Houston I have yet to put it on. I just couldn;t pass up the deal though.

I had a Theta LT for 2 years when I decided to get the Theta AR. The LT had a storm-flapped front zip. One can only appreciate a waterproof front zip after zagging the zipper on a storm flap several times. The AR is the bomb! Before Arc'teryx I was a total The North Face fan. Went through two Mountain Lights and one Mountain Guide then my brother got a Theta AR when it still had the storm-flapped front zip. He convinced me to get the LT and then I progressed to the AR. I bought my wife an AR for Valentine's Day last year. We've taken our jackets snowboarding and camping. I really like the following features of the jacket:
1) waterproof flapless front zip
2) waterproof pocket zips (I think Arc'teryx pioneered this feature)
3) die-cut sleeve cuff Velcro straps
4) left sleeve pocket
5) voluminous hood that can be cinched to one's head securely
6) large pit zips (also waterproof)
7) very light weight
8) the XCR version is nicely breathable
9) just about everyone has a North Face jacket. Having an Arc'teryx jacket is like belonging to an exclusive club. :D

Too late for it to be exclusive, particularly if you mean "classy" as well. I'm in it.

:D Exclusive, but definitely not classy. The Arc'teryx jackets are just begging to be used in harsh environments. BTW, as an aside, nothing seems to beat Gore Revivex to restore the DWR on Arc'teryx jackets. Instead of spraying the jacket with the stuff, I've found that pouring Revivex into a small plastic tub and then dipping the jacket in until completely soaked, then putting the jacket through medium heat in a dryer works best.

WHOA! thanks for the tip grnamin... Yeah I'am a proud member of the arcteryx club;) I had a gamma lt I traded away:( but also I kept the sigma lt, which makes a perfet combo with the Theta AR!!! I wanna get a backpack by them too. The Bora 65 in red is what I am shooting for. I was a loyal North face guy that stood behind my summit seris mntn light parka, but got blown away by the Theta AR-It's absolutely amazing!!! The hood is so great for riding and the xcr breathes really well, although I must confess that my summit series sold me on xcr. Besides, north face seems to be a fashion staple now...:barf:

You're welcome. You may want to check out their Rolltop series. I have an Arc'teryx Rt 35 . Works great as a bug-out bag. If only the water bottle pockets were a little deeper.

that IS a sweet one, but I'm kinda leanin' towards the bora 65 for its capacity, but I wish it came in all black...

I am sold on the rt 35. thanks grnamin. I have a jacket in the trade forum if anyone is interested...

I had a RT25 for awhile, but was also disappointed by the water bottle pockets. The pack is really sweet for a hydration bladder setup, but sometimes I like the ease and speed of loading a bottle. If you carry Nalgenes or similar bottles, this pack prob. won't work to you liking...IMHO

Yep! My only complaint with my RT 35 is the fact that the water bottle pockets are about half as deep as they should be. May as well call them afterthought pockets instead. :D I secure my water bottles with the pockets and the load compression straps. BTW, you're welcome, EasEWryder. :)

Good lookin' out y'all. I carry a platypus with a nozzle on it for water, and I think maybe the shallow pockets might be good for mickey's grenades, but I haven't gotten a pack yet...:D
