Just thought I'd share an in-progress picture of my newest work, a Shamshir sword. Didn't quite get the shape right, but I'm just happy to get this far. The picture shows how much work I have left to do, Heat treating, cleaning and polishing and handle construction.

Looks good. It will be interesting to see it with a hilt. Re the distal issues, while there are trends, there are also exceptions.. Some Saudi sabers I have seen are narrower than a lot of western swords. I can't speak to the distal of them without having one in hand. Starting with thinner stock would be nature require a less concave distal. However, a friend that has ground on his Cold Steel saber to increase distal has never quite been happy with grinding down the percussive section..

Since we are not looking at a blade meant for cutting down fence posts, I would imagine you are looking for a fairly neutral feel while leaving some mass forward.. The narrower the blade width, the thicker it can remain (if that makes any sense).

Cheers

Thanks, yes, it makes sense to me. I am looking forward to seeing how this blade performs, and am already making notes for changes to my next one. And probably many more changes after that, lol.

Looks very wicked.
