Shanghai Shadow and Warrior

These knives are close to a spitting image of the old British Fur Trade dags that were traded at posts up here. So I caught an interest in them. Does anyone here have them ? Do you throw them ? Have you used them roughly ? chopped light tree limbs with them?, thrown them ?, are they pretty tough ? I cared little about them until I saw how much they looked like the old trade dags, now I wanna play, maybe mod. Any experience/observations about either or both is appreciated. Thanks.

I don't own either, but the Shadow is 1055, which is used in their throwers and GI Tanto. The Warrior is SK-5, which is used in the Bushman series. I think they both will be pretty tough, although I've heard rumors of SK-5 knives chipping in extreme cold.

I own a Shanghai Shadow. Never used it for anything (I just bought it for collection since I think it's an awesome design), but it's pretty darn sharp!

Cold Steel's 1055 is beastly tough. Here's a video of GI Tanto abuse. While I certainly don't expect the Shanghai Shadow to measure up (it's got a much thinner grind and is probably heat treated differently), it's the same steel and a very similar construction.

Haha! Same here, only I have both the Shadow and Warrior. The Warrior will likely be the tougher of the two, given the extra 1mm of thickness and flat grind (as opposed to the deep hollow of the Shadow). On the other hand, the Warrior is substantially larger than the Shadow. I posted this pic a while ago, but the difference in size really seems much more pronounced in person.

Huh. I didn't know the SW had a flat grind. Must be tough! I'd like to know how it slices in comparison to the SS. Thanks for sharing. :)

Ya, the cold can be tough. I remember rolling the edge on a Becker Brute years ago. The tree was frozen hard as granite. And this is why I will not take my Marauder out to play yet. I doubt that the edge could take it.
