I thought I'd show you guys my first effort at a fixed blade modification. Of course Haebbie got me thinking I should like to try one with his nice work.

I haven't quite decided what to do with the pommel/butt end but the rest is basically done (need to rebuff the blade). Added a SS guard, elk w/vulcanized red spacer, SS pins, and some very old micarta that Dave gave me that came from Buck years ago. This was quite a fun little project.

Suggestions for capping the end??

Well,that's awsome !
Is the saw on the back of the blad functional ?
What about the serretations ?

You did a fantastic job on that one, It looks great...........
A Stainless steal cap would be perfect.

That's a nice job.Did you build the guard? Is it S.S.?The blade looks like it took a nice polish too.

Very nice looking knife you have there. I really like that blade. You did a great job on it.

I am planning on doing something similar to my 639, but I think it may all stag???

Thanks,
John

Yes Flat' that is one sweet looking knife!!
ya did good pilgram!
thumbs up all around!

Flatlander, you made an impressing knife! And the micarta looks nice together with the stag. And - you know - I like these red spacers.

Best,
Haebbie

P.S.: There's no reason to cap the end. Leave it as it is. It is well done

Hey Thanks guys. It was a fun project.
I'm going to still look at a cap or plate I think, we'll see.
Don, the guard came from Texas Knife Supply. They have brass too in this model.

Zom, the sawback and all that is just as it was when I got it. Does the guard impede the sawing stroke, probably. That's OK, with any luck I won't be having to survive out in the woods with just that knife and a piece of wire.;);)

EDIT: I took the sawback and starting pulling it across my index finger to check if the guard is in fact in the way...NOPE. Looks good.

Nice work Flate, first rate. I say leave the end as it is but do what you like, it really looks nice either way.
