Shaping of the handles

I know there has been lots of threads on edge changing and angles and threads on blade mods, but I haven't seen one(at least in the first 3 or 4 pages) on shaping of the handles. I've got the RC5 and the handles in my hands seem a bit blocky. I was wondering if you all had suggestions, comments or photos on how to alter or round them out just a bit. I'd just like to make it more comfortable in the hand. Thanks

I like mine. There's been a few threads about reshaping, but mostly for more texture

If you're set on doing it, Just remember that micarta makes nasty bad dust. Have some eye and breathing protection on.

hi, it would be pretty easy for me to do, i don't know how steady your hands are for using power tools, i would just round them gently on the belt sander.

but if you were going to do it by hand a file to rough the shape and then sandpaper to smooth it up. would work just fine, micarta is pretty easy to work but it cuts quick so don't take too much off you can't put it back on.

take it easy

Well it's done. Again purpose was to make it more comfortable for my hands. Use one of my stock making files, and it worked beautifully. I may sand it down some, but in doing that it makes it slicker. As it sits it has a really good feel.

I've been looking into making my own micarta scales just for kicks. This website was really helpful. Not sure you were looking to get into anything like that, but it seems to me you could make a custom handle without messing around too much more with the original RAT scales. Black and Tan denim twisted looks sick!

Thanks for that link. I have one or two tutorials already book marked, but always good to see another with a slightly different set up.

Man I wish people would stop posting pics of those Izula scales!

That micarta tutorial was impressive.

That came out great! Almost looks like stock.

Thanks for the kind words. I've since used some 180 grit emery cloth and sanded the angles or rather the edges and rounded them off a bit. Then washed the scales and knife to clean them up some. It wasn't until I started workng with them that I saw the green in the scales, until then I thought they looked more tan. They are now back to the original coloring since being washed.

Excellent work, the final photo looks great.
Would you mind giving some info on how you did that?
I've always found the 5's panels a little blocky but wasn't sure how to work with the micarta.
