Im not sure if this is in the right section but i didnt find a section directly labled this so i put it here, if its in the wrong place can a mod please move it?

I have a lansky crock stick and it doesnt seem to be doing the best job, sure its okay for touch ups but it cant really bring anything back from dullness and cleaning the rods needs to be done frequently and its a real pain to clean them.

Does anyone know any cheap ways to sharpen a knife that will get it sharp (like paper slicing sharp doesnt need to be scalpel or straight razer sharp)

Im not worried about not really knowing what to do with it if its something that takes skill ill just grab me a cheap knife and pratice with it until i get it down (got a 5 year old junk knife from a department store that id use)

Thanks in advanced

the knife i sharpen most is the knife i use at work witch is a dexter russel carbon steel knife i use to skin and peel fruits and veggies (ex : watermelon cantelope pineapples)
but ill use it on my edc folders too, i dont have a folder as to date that has a real hard steel, 420 hc aus 8 and 8cr13mov are about it.

Not knowing how much you want to spend you might fine Norton Stones your best bet. You can follow up on your crock sticks. Freehand is a good way to learn how to sharpen. The Maintenance section is a good place to look for other sharpening methods.

Any whetstone will do. It's the only sharpening "system" I use but all my knives shave armhair.

I don't have any diamond sharpeners, but they seem too be just as easy and inexpensive on the net.

Both work fine on relatively soft steels, especially if you practice for a bit.
