I have been restoring some straight razors and other blades and had to hog off material fast and still refine.

Just gotta say this 2k Shapton stone is superb.
It’s noticeably faster than the 3000 chosera (which is an amazing standout in the entire chosera line). These two actually seem faster than the other stones listed below but at a much better refinement.

I have the following stones In this grit range and the 2k Shapton really stands out.

1k cerax
800 chosera
1200 atoma
1k chosera
2k Shapton glass
3k chosera
And this 2 k Kuromaku/medium.

This stone hogs off material. A quick hit on the 3k chosera and you are ready for an ultra fine finish on your finish stones in no time flat.

Chosera’s are awesome and most people recognize that BUT…

If you need a medium stone get the 2000 Shapton this stone isn’t new and doesn’t seem to get much attention but it’s fast and the edge is pretty. Cloudy mirror finish. It will set your bevel all day or make quick work from your coarse stone. What an economical beast of a stone at 1/3 the price!

I'll have to add that to my collection. I have the 120 and the 12k in that series. The 120 is my go-to for serious reprofiling and chip repair. I got the 12k to use as a razor finishing stone, but I haven't had a chance to try it yet.

I think you’ll be pleased with the 2k. I also think you’ll like the Shapton 12k.

I’ve been using the following progression for heavy rework on razors

coarse stones (for restoration only)
2k Shapton (light restoration/bevel set)
3k chosera ( prefinish or light bevel set)
8k Shapton pro (excellent stone too)
12k Shapton pro (negative loads up quickly, still my preferred finisher)
Leather and fire hose strops with diamond spray

Is a fire hose strop something I'm going to find with a little searching here or can you elaborate for me please?

Thanks,

B

AKA flax linen. That's what the old fire hoses were made of. There are razor strops sold that are made from flax linen or you can find old pieces of fire hose for sale that can be made into a strop. I recently picked up about 20 feet of old linen fire hose for about $1 at an estate sale.

Yes it’s just linen or flax linen. I don’t use compound on it or spray with diamond spray. Simply a quick bur removal

I should have been more specific above. The leather gets the diamond spray not the heavy linen/fire hose
