Shapton Bench stones

So, I've been using the sharpmaker for a couple of years for my knife maintenance needs and along the way, the act of sharpening became clear to the point where, just recently, I am able to use the rods in the "benchstone" manner to achieve a very good edge by freehand. Naturally, after realizing the benefits of freehand sharpening (time especially), I am in the market for some nice bench stones which would also serve to maintain my straight razors. I came across shapton stones and was wondering if anyone has used them or if anyone can recommend some good bench stones and bench strops, price not being an issue.
