Shapton Glass 7 Question and Shapton Ceramic Deal

Fist time posting in this section, I am usually in the knifmakers area. But I digress.

Help me understand something. Is the Shapton Glass Seven Stone in .44 micron the best deal for around a 30k grit stone? I mean, it is like 100 buck on sharpening supplies vs $200+ for "normal" 30k grit stones. Is there a major drawback to the Glass Sevens? I hope not, I just bought one. Even if it does not fit in a regular stone holder, I will just hold it in my hand.

Also, maybe everyone here already knows about this, and maybe it is a scam. But Shapton Kuromaku stones are INSANELY cheap on amazon. I was about to purchase them from a well respected supply site until I noticed how cheap they are on amazon. Nearly half price on some of the stones, and cheaper even than non high end stones. I pretty much swore off Amazon, as I prefer to support local when possible and knife supply companies next. But buying this four piece set below basically allowed me to get two stone for free. Hard to beat.

They're small, but I've used similar sized but thicker natural stones (handheld) for razors. I do use the glass stones handheld, but with an open palm, I find them too thin to grip safely. It's not a stone you're going to use with a lot of pressure, so a stone holder isn't really needed, I often use bench cookies instead.

The only competition at that micron-size is the Gokumyo 20k, which I expect is the same price as the full-size 30k Shapton.

Yeah, from what I've read they are just smaller versions of the regular Shapton Glass - same materials.
The length and width are smaller, but they are thicker.

I guess posting links in this sub forum is not allowed. Search the stones on Amazon and there are two, three, and four pack deals that are hard to believe.

Thanks for your input. So both around $400. That is very expensive. I might glue it to a piece of wood like a strop.

Yes, like 20% thicker. Seemed like a killer deal. I might get it an realize it is itty bitty. But it will be fine. I am sure I do not need it, just wanted it.

My Shapton Glass are amazing. My favorite stones and I’ve gotten my knives the sharpest with these.
