I really like using the Shapton Glass on a lot of my knives. I’ve been using the EP for about a half year now. I have the 500 and 1000, but would like to go to the next finer grit. Do you think we’ll ever see Shapton Glass stones for the EP again?

I can't break our site rules by linking to a non-supporting vendor, but it appears that Chef Knives To Go still has some grits. The 4K appears to be available. The 2K may be out of stock.

I checked there a lot in the past but they were out. Just checked again and you’re right. Thanks.

Yes I can second the 4,000 ! I use it all the time.
Also I would recommend getting the 220. It is a good hard stone that doesn't wear fast but cuts quite well. It speeds up the sharpening process on new factory edges that are whacked. Or alternatively for reprofiling work you could go even coarser and get a diamond stone. Gritomatic brand is good to go there or the new Venev Bonded Diamond Sharpening Stone 150 grit.

Wowbagger, I think the OP was asking specifically about availability of the next higher grit(s) of the Shapton Glass hones.

The Shapton Glass Stone Seven series are nearly the right length at 160mm rather than the stock ~153mm. With the right length of spring or spacer the Apex arm should take these I believe.

What kinds of steel are you sharpening,if you ask me there are better stones then Shapton Glass I have some and use them but they are by no means my go to stones they just don't cut that fast.

I have had really good result's with Sigma Power stones in their highest grit's.

Sharpening S30V, M390, S35VN mostly. I’ve been using the Shapton Glass and finishing with the Matrix 1100 stone. Just thought I’d try a finer glass stone. But for a while it seemed like most suppliers were out of stock, and I thought I read where ‘they’ were going to quit making Shapton Glass for the Edge Pro.

Last I heard they were, what you're seeing is remaining inventory. Hope I'm wrong as I really like the stones...

Try a Venev OCB stone they are really stones for diamond stones that cut at a decent speed and the new resin they use to hold them together with seems to do a good job of polishing.

For the steels your trying sharpen myself I would personally use something that cut's a bit faster then a Shapton Glass stone.

As far as seeing the Shapton Glass stones coming back in stock I wouldn't hold my breath, from what Chef Knives To Go told me Shapton was and the old owners didn't mind making the stones in edge pro format but from what CKTG said to me when asked about them for a friend when I placed an order they said that the new owner always complain whenever they asked them to make them a run of them because they have to change stuff over.

:poop:
Poor babies. :(
World wide sales of some of their best stones to owners of one of the best and most popular sharpening jigs made.

Gosh who would want a piece of that ?
Just anyone making sharpening stones I would guess.
I bet Gritomatic will be GLAD to pick up the slack for the poor dears .

I dearly love the Shapton Glass in the finer grits.

If and when I need to replace them, if glass isn't available, I guess I'll go back to Shapton Pro. I have them up to 30,000 grit.

In normal stones I really like both shapton glass and chosera, I have chosera for the Edge Pro and love them, haven't seen shapton's for it, thanks may look... if they're around still that is.
