Shapton glass HRC stones question

Question for anyone that has these stones can you clean them with bar keepers friend or any other method. I just purchased them and have not started using them yet. Also will they cut the super steels ?

I use a Japanese rust eraser or nagura stone to clean mine, but bar keepers's friend should work.

They will sharpen super steels, but because the abrasive in the stones is softer than vanadium carbides, you'd get better edge retention using diamonds or CBN.

Both fantastic, but the Japanese rust eraser's are brilliant. Work on any stone and strops.

I have a Sabitoru medium.

I'm a big Barkeepers fan, but the instructions that came with my Shapton Glass stones years ago said not to use any (harsh) cleaning agents / detergents...and so I don't. I rinse them and maintain them with either a rust eraser or one of the zillion diamond hones I have laying around.

Alternatively, the SiC or AlOx grit I have for my EdgePro hones.

I about fainted reading some of these comments.

Shapton Glass stones are waterstones, you put water on them and lap them with a proper diamond plate BEFORE EVERY USE! This is how you "clean" them and keep them flat.

Do not use other methods that involve chemicals or erasers.
