shapton glass progression question (EP)

Hey, im planning on blowing some of my christmas bonus on an edge pro!

chefs knives to go has a pre bundled set of glass shaptons at 320, 500, 1k, 4k, 8k. is that a solid set or would I need a 2k or a 6k to get full advantage of the shaptony goodness?

Im thinking of getting a 16K also. I have several pastes and diamond sprays as well, so i was planing on getting a few kangaroo strops to go past the 16K.

This is how I do most of my edges.

 
I would get the 2k to ease the progression from 1k to 4k. The 6k is inconsequential in the progression stated, IMO.
 
The advice above is spot on. I would add the 2k , forget the 6.
You can add the 16k and even the 30k if you feel so inclined , personally I like to go as far as possible on stones before switching to the strops. Your edges look great.

Which diamond sprays do you have?

I use Kanagaroo , it works excellent. When used on the EP it actually creates a stiction to the edge that helps burnishing. I use my Kangaroo with CBN and my Nanocloth with Polycrystalline.
 
I recently received my essential set with Shapton glass stones (500, 1k, 4k) and I will be purchasing the 2k as getting from 1k to 4k takes a significant amount of time (much longer than from 500 to 1k). Other than that I quite like the setup.
 
Thanks for the tips, I'll forego the 6k then. And thanks, I spent a lot of time getting the sharpening craft to that level and I'm excited to make the next step!

I have 6 and 3 micron dmt paste along with 1 and .5 micron hand American paste and one bottle of .25 diamond spray. Although the .1 and .025 sprays do look appealing for the future, down the rabbit hole haha

I have one bottle of some stuff even finer than 0.025 coming :) , and some unannounced stuff.

Also, that's a huge jug if nano oil! Looks like a nice sharpening station.
 
Thanks, sadly Im not the owner! its my uncles 53' chevy. its got a huge corvette motor in it and the tires burn right off haha. we lived together for a while, thats when i took that pic.
 
Keep your eyes open , hopefully I can make an announcement in the next couple weeks , if not the start of January. Till then Mums the word.

The Nano Oil is great stuff , makes em slippery.

With everything else you have your going to love the shaptons.
