Hi,
I plan on buying the Shapton Glass HC series, for straight razor sharpening. Instead of maybe getting the Shapton HR glass 2k as a bevel setter I maybe will get the Shapton Kuromaku 2k, because I want a thicker bevel setter. I already have the pro 1500 and I don't care for it much. So are they much difference between the pro/Kuromaku 1500 and the 2000 Kuromaku. From what I have read that the pro 2k is on par and maybe offer a little more refinement than a Chosera 1k, not comparing numbers, but difference in manufacturers grit rating are sometimes different.
Also which seems finer Shapton pro 2k or the Shapton Glass HR 2k?

Stone thickness is a moot point, too many other factors that play into the overall picture to be stuck on stone thickness.

IMO, Shapton stones are not the best choice for straight razor sharpening. They produce a rougher edge than something like a Naniwa Super Stone and when it comes to shaving you want the smoothest edge possible.

Personally, I would go with a naniwa 1k, 3k, 5k, 8k, 10k then strop. 8k is probably good enough but having a 10k never hurts.

Fyi, Shapton Pro stones are steel sensitive. The 1500 is specifically for carbon steels so if used for stainless it will kinda suck. The pro stone are also not designed for very hard steels and straight razors are usually higher hardness.

I agree the HR Glass leave rough stria. The HC Glass are good stones, and they polish more. I borrowed a Snow White 8k and a HC 8k from a friend and I would say that I liked the HC better, the polish was about equal, but the SW are known for crazing so I will stay away from that one.

Yeah I plan on getting the Shapton Glass HC 4k and the 8k, they only sell a 2k in the HR series and i figured it would leave aggressive stria compared to the HC stones, and I was going to get a Shapton 2k pro/Kuromaku instead. As far as the Kuromaku stones they are good stones, but I find they don't play well with other manufactures stones mixed in. Meaning I already have a 1.5k, 5k and 8k Kuromaku and by the time I get to my Naniwa 12k finisher those rougue scratches really stand out like a sore thumb. The 8k leaves a pretty coarse scratches for an 8k IMO.

I am going to sell the 5k and 8k and maybe the 1.5k Kuromakus. It probably may not make sense to get a 2k pro if I already have a 1.5k pro. Or are they a discernable difference between the two? If so, will the 4k hc have enough umph to remove the 2k pro stria?
