Shapton Pro Grit Progression Recommendation?

I'm wanting to try my hands on waterstones rather than rely on gadgets. Mind you they are good gadgets, edge pro and worksharp, but still gadgets and I want to learn some skills.

I'm looking to buy a set of Shapton Pro stones, and wondering which three to go with. 1000, 2000, 5000? Or is there another set that would be better for me? I think really rough repairs I'll have another way, and for really high polishing I do have a strop I can use.

BTW I did try to look but couldn't find anything specific to Shapton Pro waterstones. Thanks!

I would recommend the Shapton Pro 1k and 5k with an Atoma 400 for a grinding and lapping. One thing you don't want to neglect is the lapping of a Shapton stone, they are very hard stones and you don't want to go more that a few knives without lapping otherwise it becomes a time consuming task.

I use these stones in a professional setting and they perform exceptionally, you will be very pleased with them.
