just wondering the best way to store these stones after use.. I have been just wiping them down and putting the mm in the box in the room at room tenpature no fan etc... also has anyone had a problem with these cracking or anything? I got the Japanese version which are suppose to be better for they're climate but I think it's bs

What you did sounds great to me! Mine are the glass stones, but the same cleaning & storing is universal for expensive ceramic water stones. I typically clean my stones off, dry with a paper towel and store them on a shelf in a cabinet I have reserved for all my stones. As far as cracking, they are no more prone to it than any other high quality stone.

Yea I have the glass too I am just more nervous with the pros for some reason.. You ever heard of people's shaptons cracking?

Like I said, no more than any other. I will say my Glass bench stones have been unusually strong! I bumped and dropped them several times & SWORE they were going to shatter! But every time they have held up...1K(about 50% remaining), & 6K(about 75% remaining). Tough stones!

How long have u had them and how much have u sharpened on them? I hear they last just as long as any other stones I haven't even made a dent in mine

I wipe dry and store them in their respective boxes. My sharpening station is in the basement so the conditions are cooler year round and somewhat cold in the winter.

I have the 320, 1k, 1.5k, 2k, and 5k. I have no cracking issues and they have been in these conditions with constant use for 3 years.

My Naniwa Snow White cracked like a dry lake bed in 2 months of the same conditions.

Ive heard of the Snow White cracking.. Jason u have any experience with the 8k and 12k shapton pros.. or 15k for American version? I have no need for it but there so much cheaper then anything else and awesome

I only have the Pro's to 5000 grit, the 8k and 15k are well liked though. I believe the 8k is a little softer and easier to gouge but produces a clean polish.

Both stone lines are top notch it just depends on what you sharpen. The Pro stones do best on lower alloy steels... the basic stuff... and the Glass stone are better on higher alloy or harder steels

Jason I emailed you about something. When you have some time check it out. Thanks!
