Hadn't needed to touch up a Spyderco in K390 until recently. Tried to use my Edge Pro with Shapton Pro stones (320, 1k & 5k). These work great on D2, S30V, M4 and M390 steels. When I tried to sharpen the K390 I got a lot of stone dust from the 320 and not much action from the 1k and 5k stones. Barely dented the edge on the K390.
Great sharpening system but not sure if I have the right stones for K390. Any thoughts or should I look into Operator Error???

Yes they can give the illusion of sharpening these high alloy steels but the lomg term edge sharpness just isn't as good as it could be. For many of the super steels such as M4 and M390 you are better off going with the Shapton Glass stones (that is what I use in my Edge Pro Apex for the most part)
And
For the S30V, S90V etc., don't bother with the Glass stones just go straight to diamomd stones.
I have no K390 (I wish I did) and so can't tell you what is best to sharpen that.

A paper wheel or belt sander if you are familiar with the process. I'm sure that's the way they were sharpened at the factory. First attempt I would use something cheap and expendable to avoid any mishaps if that's the case.

I did ok with my K390 Urban on Suehiro’s Cerax and Chosera stones.
However, I do prefer diamond plates for my higher end carbide heavy steeles (S110, K390, Maxamet, Rex, etc).
