Shapton stones

I bought a couple Shapton Rockstar stones. A 1000 and a 4000. I was wanting to get a 2000 but was looking at the Shapton glass since they are cheaper. However there is the HC series and the HR series. Which would would actually match the Rockstar.

The HC is for more traditional high carbon steels and the HR cover a bigger variety of more modern steels. I believe the Rockstar series is basically the HR without glass backing.

I've only looked at one shop, but they have the Rock Star stones at a lower price than the Shapton Glass series.

Last I saw, there was no Shapton Glass HC in 2000. Only 4k, 6K, 8K. The HC are nice stones for simple carbon steel. They put a nice bright polish on the bevel. Nice for razors, but for most things I would stick to the HR stones.

The 2000 Mesh Shapton Glass Stone is part# 50302. The particle size is 7.35 Microns.
