(*Mums and daughters also welcome obviously!)

Giving your child his/her first knife is, or should be, a memorable event. All nostalgic parents/grand parents are welcome to share such memorabilia, preferably in photographic form!

Although my 7yo son already got a “My first vic” a couple of years ago, he is scheduled to receive this charming little gem complete with engraving. I envision him sitting on a rocking chair on the porch many decades from now, enjoying the sunset while carving a corn dog stick with his first fixed blade knife and shedding a bittersweet tear in memory of his father 😉

My father to son event...

I was getting ready to report in for Army Basic Training when my father noticed I was planning to take my stockman folder.

“Leave it here. It will only get stolen.”

When I replied that I did not want to be without a knife, my father reached in his pocket and handed me an old, beat up folder that I had never seen before.

My father and my nice stockman are both long gone but, that beat up folder is still around. I will never sell it or trade it away.

My boy was well into his thirties before I developed an interest in knives beyond Opinels and SAKs for my motorcycle tool kits. My first father/son knife moment probably occurred when I commented on a knife in his pocket I had never seen. A few months later my birthday came up and he gave me a rainbow or “disco” Leek. On another occasion, I told him about a good price I had seen on an Emerson-waved Kershaw, a novelty for both of us. His response was to go on Amazon and order one for each of us.

My knife gifts to him had some didactic content: Buck 110 and 119, Condor Bushlore, several Condor machetes, a small Anza utility knife., a mini Grip, a Bugout.

As a senior statesman in the family, I was designated to make the knife introductions to my grandson. I started him on an Opinel 7, followed the next year (after consultation with his mother) by a Marttiini Little Classic. He bonded with that knife. During the early weeks of the lockdown, I passed a number of warm spring days at the picnic table with him, whittling branches into shavings.

Nice story. I think your beat up folder deserves to be displayed here in this thread. All knives welcome! 😊

One of these? Nice 👍

A couple years ago I got my 5 year old daugther a Mora Safe... so she could not stab herself (only clean cut her flesh no problem... XD). She helps me at the kitchen using regular kitchenware, so why not a propper knife? She is 7 already and I have a friend about to come back to Spain with a few knives I ordered whle he was there, and among them, there are two Dozier Hunter folders... My plan is to just let her pick the one she likes the most.

Great! One of the colourful models?

I gave my stepson a Gerber LST when he started Scouts. I seriously doubt that he gives it a single thought now. The last time I spoke with his mother, she told me that I had done great evil to her in a previous life, I believe it would have been in the 18th century. Not only does she know how to hold a grudge, but she passed her resentment of me on to her children. Insh a' Allah.

Sorry to hear that 🙄

Hopefully things will change with time.

Sounds like your Ex is doing a huge amount of damage to her son and herself.
