Sharky's Machine

I was flipping through the channels last night, and caught a rerun of Sharky's Machine.

There was a scene where an oriental man, with a balisong, chopped off 2 of Sharky's fingers. There was a nice closeup of the blade, but I didn't see a butterfly etching. What/who made/makes the knife used, and who was the one using it.

It was just standard opening procedures, nothing flashy in my eyes, but I guess when this movie was made, it would have been flashy for me.

The man is not oriental, close, but he is Filipino. That is, in fact, none other than Guru Dan Inosanto. Notice, please, also who is the stunt coordinator on that film: Jeff Imada.

I bet very few people know that Jeff Imada helped with the stunts for the movie "Fight Club" and if you don't believe me just buy the video and watch the credits (after watching the movie of course ). A very awesome movie!!

GOTTA love that movie. I gave it the Number 2 Movie of All Time spot. In fact it inspired my quote.

Unfortunantly the balisong is demonized in this hidden "catalog" on the second disc of the DVD (the fight club DVD that is)

Mr. Imada was, for many years, a top Hollywood stuntman. Now, he's a top stunt director/coordinator. You can see his credit in many top movies. All to often, he is not recognizable on-screen. Oh, and look for Guru Inosanto's daughter who is rapidly climing the ranks as a stuntwoman.

So that was Dan?? Shows me how old I am now. He looked in the movie nothing like he looks in the Imada Balisong video.

Got me thinking though. My BM42 did not come as sharp as any of my Microtechs, so, I useded my Spderco sharpener last night to sharpen my BM42 to shaving sharpness. It is really nice now.

I just saw Jeff at a 65th birthday party for Guro Dan. Jeff is still in amazing shape, washboard abs and all. Unfortunately, nobody pulled out a bali and convinced him to bust a few moves.
