Sharp brass pin in ebony covers

Hello, this is my first post in the maintenance forum because I'm fairly 'hands-off' unfortunately.

I have a knife with ebony handle covers and a brass center pin which protrudes at an angle, just by a small bit but it's sharp enough to bother me. Is there any way to make the pins flush?

Thanks for any help

Hit it very lightly with some sandpaper to knock off the sharp edge. Probably a high grit like 400+ so you don't mess up the ebony. If you accidentally hit the ebony a little and it looks lighter, put a little oil on that spot to help hide it.

Thanks, Phil
I wasn't sure sandpaper would work, but it's all I have at my disposal so that's good to hear.

Another thing you can do it just touch a file to it. Put a piece of blue painters tape over the pin, then try and knock off the part of tape that is covering the pin in question, leaving the ebony around it protected. Then just do a couple of light push strokes with a small flat file and it should knock that sharp edge very quickly. Then you can touch up with sand paper while the tape is still there to get any deep scratches out of the brass.
