David Sharp Dixon on the top, and Extended Chute on the bottom.

David made me the Dixon and delivered at the USN Gathering two years ago. It is balanced favorably and weighted quite nicely, compared to a Loveless Shop genuine article. The wood on this one is stabilized Koa purchased from Mark Farley at It's a Burl at the Pasadena knife show.

The Extended Chute is also handled in stabilized Koa, this block was given to me by my good (and sadly deceased) friend J.P. Holmes last year. David delivered this knife to me at the SHOT show. He made the sheaths for both knives himself and did a fine job.

Both knives have soldered guards, some of the cleanest and smooth flowing solder jobs I have ever seen.

The next two are going to be a Hideout and a Battle Knife....not sure what I want after that.

Curly Koa is a lovely material.

Please feel free to discuss, comment or ask questions.

Super pair, STeven! I am a big fan of David's work. I placed an order at Blade with him. The Koa looks super.

Pretty decent picture. Someone take it? ;) :D

The Koa has an excellent chatoyance.

Fuji X100, freehand, ambient lighting......I still suck at pictures...but it isn't the fault of the camera.

Beautiful knives STeven.
The Pasadena show was where first I met both you and David.
I am very fond of David Sharp's work. Very clean and classy.

Thanks for sharing them STeven.

I'm a huge fan of David as a knife maker! I say it like that, rather than simply saying, "of his knives" because of his general attitude and approach. Through his WIP threads, he's clearly shown how dedicated and passionate he is about putting out the very best work his hands are capable of. And clearly they are capable of remarkable work.

To my untrained eye, it always looks like he nails the tribute factor to the original RWL pieces... but with MUCH more refined fit & finish/detail work.

I'm envious that you are able to have some of his work in your collection STeven.  :)

Great pair! I am especially drawn to the Dixon. That blade is talking to me. The wood on both of the handles looks super nice. Thanks for showing, STeven.

Came across David's work and was impressed from the get go, super talent! He made a Loveless Utility for me
with a few modification that I love and as of tomorrow my second piece will be in the mail. Besides the obvious
pleasure I derive from owning a piece of his craftsmanship he has asked me to work with him at his table at the Blade,
I am very humbled and honored.

Thanks for sharing the pics. I met David and saw some of his work at the last Blade Show, but not these particular models.

Like you, I really like high quality curly Koa . . . I have some really, really nice material that I have been saving up for years to hopefully have used on some knives . . . "some day." It would be nice to see some "pro pics" of these. But this picture is not too bad, and I think I proved on the AKI thread that I suck at pictures worse than you do.

One thing that I can't tell from the picture . . . are the guards polished, or some kind of satin or matte finish?

1. The best curly Koa that I have seen is not what is on these knives, but "high quality" they are. The scales on the extended Chute are very special to me. David Sharp is a cancer survivor and what took my friend J.P. Holmes last year was Leukemia complications. So, for me, this knife kicks cancer in the ballz....it is an affirmation of life and a testament of the good things we have to share.

2. Ok, you suck worse at photos than I do.....what do you win?

3. The sides of the guards are satin, the front, back and top are mirror polished. The knives look great in person!

Great lines on these and I bet those handles look stunning in person.

Thanks for sharing, enjoy them!

David is so very talented and really does a bang up job

Hell his work got me back into Loveless designs

David Sharp Dixon on the top, and Extended Chute on the bottom.

IMO, David is one of the very best in executing Loveless designs. Congrats STeven, you have a very nice Sharp/Loveless collection in the works.

I do have two observations:

The Dixon photo represents the Blade and Handle to be aprox. the same length. I'm assuming that's not the case and just the photo angle?

Just personal preference, I prefer the clip length on the Extended Chute to be proportionally the same as on the standard Chute.

Hey Kevin....the Dixon has about a 5 29/32" blade, handle is 4 3/4".

I prefer the proportion as you say, but David confirmed that this is the way the Loveless Shop does it, and so by gosh, does he.:D

Thanks for all the kind words guys, and thanks for the opportunity Stephen.

I agree with the observation about the short clip. That thought prompted my Super Chute the Dixon profile with a Chute grind. The Dixon, Extended Chute, and 5" Fighter are very similar in size.

What's not to like? Beautiful knives, made by one of the really good guys in this game. And Koa ranks right up there among my favourite woods. Do you plan on assembling an all-Koa set?

What's your plan on the Hideout? Is your intent to go the standard handle route or improved handle?

It is extremely difficult to balance the lengthend clip with the assymetry of the grinds....in other words, the(roughly) mid-ridge line of the Dixon does not work with the Chute design. Given the choice, I prefer the shorter clip.

You got it Roger, didn't plan to do it that way originally, but I do now.

Hi Bob....I like the Improved handle.
