Sharp liners on Gayle Bradley

Hi all!

Got my Gayle Bradley today and was surprised how sharp the liners are. The knife is very uncomfortable to use. Specially the lock in nearly impossible to reach. The liners dig into my thump.

It should be like this? Is yours as sharp as mine? Mine are not rounded at all...

Mine is just as sharp and I find it a dream to use.

Amen. The sharp edge on the Spyderhole and the lockbar create traction for your fingers. I have callused on my hands so it doesn't bother me much. Although some people say the knife is hard to unlock, I have not found that to be the case. Great Knife, use it and get accustomed to it, all new knives have things we are not used to.

Not to the point where it is a hinderance. I have medium/large sized hands and I guess I got used to the .5mm or whatever it is that protrudes. That is why I suggested carrying and using it.
EDIT: It occurred to me that machining could have changed from the first production run to the second. That might explain it. Trust me when I say that your hand will break in. It happens with every knife, people have to get accustomed to the new action/mechanics of the knife. Framelocks used to destroy my thumbs, but now not so much. It gets better.

So I guess it's sandpaper and Dremel time. Probably not the worst way to spend your night tweaking knives.

If you have something like the Spyderco Sharpmaker ceramic rods, consider just breaking the edge with the brown/gray stone, using it sort of like a file.

Just be careful if you decide to round off the lockbar edge. Consider the small amount of room you have to get your thumb in to press the lockbar over. Its sharp so your thumb can grab it with minimal space. If you round off the edge, your thumb will slip more and it will take more force to disengage it....then its back to square 1 with a different issue. Just a thought.

Thanks for the feedback. I took the knife apart last night and sanded the liners all around except the lock bar. Made also some more room to reach the lock. Now the knife is comfortable to hold.

I was surprised about the build quality. All the parts fits nice and tight. Got also remainder why the glue like stuff is called lockTIGHT (or tite...) :) My t6 driver looks like a screw.

It is a very well-made knife.

I agree with the caution about the lockbar above. I don't have any trouble unlocking the knife with either hand, but I think part of that is because the relatively sharp edge on the lockbar catches the thumb well.

Mod by Tom Krein which makes the GB way more usable. I have a pet peeve against occluded Spydie holes or linerlocks: :)

You must have delicate lady hands or they made the liners sharper. What's the date code on yours? Mine are JJ and KJ.

Where I can find the date code?

EDIT: mine says BK (feb. 2011? )

And by the way, mine has drilled liners. I am seriously thinking this has to be fail in manufacturing. The liners were solid 90 degrees and very sharp. Specially the opposite liner to the lock with the dent inside was irritating.

I've noticed that all of the Taiwanese produce Spyderco's have very sharp edges.

I've noticed the same.

Yours is from the second production run, which has skeletonized liners. The JJ and KJ knives would be from the same run. It isn't clear whether others with GBs from this group have the same condition.

yep mine (2) both have edgy liners, doesnt really bother me at all though. I have a bunch of quality knives and the bradley is the reigning champ right now. But then again I have callused man hands.

Same. I have a new one with drilled liners, and the edges are certainly "crisp" but don't bother me.
