Hi there,
We had our local Hammer In over the weekend 25 May to 27 May 2007 at Fortuna Club Resort, Heidelberg, South Africa.
The support for the event was very good (60 knifemakers and enthusiasts) taking into account that South Africa was playing England in Rugby football Union match which is as good as a religion in South Africa.
All events and workshops were presented by South African Knife makers Guild members and truely added to everybodies knowledge of knifemaking. I am currently in th process of finalising my first knife and the workshops were of great value to me.
I took the wife with and she was amazed at the knife forging process, she could not believe that people were still doing it the old fasioned way.
The event was spread over three days and included the following activities:
The workshops covered the following topics:
A couple of pictures:
Hollow Grinding
Impala Stag Horn that was flattened to serve as handle material, nice natrural finger grips
The stabilised inner core of a Koedoe horn
Giraffe Bone
A flattened Koedoe horn
The little furnace that could !!
The beginning of a knife
Nearly there
Ready for action
Don't they all look the same
