The forum sure looks different since I last was on. I prefer the old layout. I HATE CHANGE. :thumbdn:

I would like to know what are good sharpeners out there? I have tried the Samurai Shark and it was good. It gave a sharp edge on some knives. I think I broke it. I would get another. I am looking at getting the Lansky Medic. It looks good. I currently only have a "Smiths" which is OKAY. Seems like it should be BETTER. It leaves a knife I have with no sharpness where the Samurai Shark left that same knife with a great sharpness. I really need something that is good for sharpening a KATANA as well. This SMITHS thing does not sharpen it at all, it is DULLLLLLLLLLLL. Please help me out. I like the simplicity of the SWIPE type sharpeners because I am not good at the stones and angles and keeping the consistency, I guess. :grumpy:

Are you for real?

I want to say - good joke! Well played.....

But, if you're serious, get a Sharpmaker. Those pull-through sharpeners are garbage.

I am very serious, bro. I would not say they are garbage, complete garbage, as they are able to put a nice sharp edge on certain blades of steel. :jerkit So a Sharpmaker huh. I am going to look into this. I really want to put the whole "RAZOR SHARP" edge on things, you know? Ideally I would like to cut the single strand of hair sharpness, you know, you know. :jerkit

Yea, I know its really hard to stay on topic with an intro post like that, but lets try.

I doubt you can get a "single hair cutting sharp" edge with a pull through. Well, unless you lay the hair on a chopping board...

If you like pull through style sharpeners maybe contact Fred Rowe about the ERU. I haven't personally used it, but it sounds like a pull through done right and should keep your blades pretty sharp.

Assuming this isn't knifein or another returning banned troll...

I'd recommend looking into paper wheels or a small belt sanded like the work sharp or a 1"x30". They'll make quick work of the katana and small blade alike. I wouldn't even try sharpening a nice sword myself, but if you're fine using a pull through sharpener I'm sure its nothing too valuable.

I don't know if I should be laughing or giving advice, I highly recommend you do some reading then come back a littler better informed.
