Sharpen an edger

Lots of videos on line about it. It really depends on the type of edger but is relatively simple for all types. Here is a video that covers how to do it with common tools and materials. Both are made by experienced and skilled leather craftsmen.

I just did mine. First a few strokes on the bottom on a plated, then a strop. Then, Cut off a strip of 3 Oz leather. Applied stropping compound to the edge of the leather and ran the inside edge against it.

Need to make a stropping block for that.

For the bevelers that aren't flat I usually just maintain by beveling an edge with it and adding compound to strop.

I've yet had to sharpen it, thank god.

Thanks for all the reply’s , the first video with the rouge and string really works !! Never would have thunk it would work

Yes the string deal works well and I did that for years. Most of the time these days I use a corner of a buffing wheel with green scratch remover rouge. Really just a couple of seconds. Medium firm wheel not a loose buff or a hard one. This is for our BK,Osborne and other assorted edgers. For our Ron’s we use their deal of 600 grit over the rod that comes with the edger.
