Sharpen and carry or put on shelf.

Depends.

If its put on a shelf, do the present kids know the family member who owned it, and will remember him?

Or is it from an obscure memeber that years from now the now grown kids will not remember or care. If it just means something to you, then go ahead and carry it. If your kids know the person and have clear recall of him then set it on the shelf. It also depends on the kids.

I would probably carry it some and use it gently.

Granddads,

No kids involved. Didn't have much dealings with GD.

I Id it as old Cami. but this is not my area. I like older knives, would just carry great once in a while. Just didn't want to mess up a classic by some unintended accident. Would have to have no borrow policy on that one.

that knife deserves to be carried and cared for. by all means put it in the carry rotation.

No kids? Distant relationship with granddad? Carry for sure. It's not mint, and granddad evidently loved and used it, why not do the same?

definitely deserves to be carried! i'm sure it will hold up and perform as it had long ago:D
nice knife!

In that case I'd sharpen well and carry the heck out of it.

I would carry it for sure. I wish I had one of my Grandad's knives! I was there (about 8 years old) when my mom found her dad's box of pocket knives after his funeral. I tried to get one, but she said no and threw the entire box away, although I love my mom dearly I still sort of resent that. Steven

That lovely knife, just asks to be be sharpened, carried, and put to use.
I wish I could have one of my granddads knives. I never found out what happened to all of them, I'm still searching. If I get lucky Ill be sure to post it right here.

Ok, the die is cast.

Have leather slip that it justs fits in, will get out the lansky and put a couple of hair-spliter edges and rough and ready one on those carbon blades. Will show it as my 40+ year old family knife from the Kansas prairies. Have only one nephew and he is a hunter, will pull it out of my pocket and dangle it front of him as a "some day his" treasure.

Farm is long ago sold and the people laid to rest, but the knife lives on.

300$s
