Hi, a few days ago I purchased a <White River Small Game - CPM S35VN> knife.
I'd like to ask you what system you use to sharpen your blades at home. Also, when you don't use the knife for a long time, do you apply any oil or something else to the blade?
Thanks 😄

Freehand w DMT plates and/or the medium and ultrafine spyderco stones. Then a strop loaded with something that fits the steel (Bark River white compound or poly diamond emulsion).
I very rarely apply oil to Maxamet, K390 and such. 3V or better doesn't really needs it, but your environment may be more corrosive. S35VN should be fine. Knives stored in leather sheaths are more prone to spotting IME, so check on them periodically.

I use the Work Sharp Precision knife sharpening system & to touch up the edge I'll use the field sharpener of the same name. Sometimes I'll use the Spyderco sharpmaker on fixed angles. There's a whole subforum on this you might want to check out.

Thanks, I hadn't seen that👍

It depends on what I'm sharpening. I enjoy freehand sharpening, but I'm not very good at it. So I keep working on freehand with those knives where a really nice edge isn't important (UltraSharp diamond plates, Arkansas stones, an American Mutt, and a Naniwa 3000), but use either a Hapstone R2 or a Work Sharp Precision Adjust (very recently purchased) when a nice, uniform edge is important to me.

I have various Arkansas stones, and Xarilk Gen 2, a Ken Onion WorkSharp and blade grinder, A Schrade Honesteel, depends on the blade. I have a 1x30 as well but don't use it as much for sharpening. The Xarilk gets used the most. The stones get used on smaller blades mostly, the KO is mainly for kitchen or longer knives. I just got the blade grinder attachment and have been trying to get the hang of it I'm not there yet.
