sharpen dull false edge?

I have an Extrema Ratio "Golem" which is made from N690, it has a straight tanto front blade with a false edge on the back. This is no longer made and retail was @ $300. I would like the knife more if the false edge was sharp. My question is can someone sharpen the false edge without compromising heat treatment etc, and make it like the factory should have, or should I leave it alone?

Thanks

i'm sure ya can find someone to do the edge no problem, of course that will destroy the collector value, i dont know how big collector interest is in ER anyway, just depends on what ya want.

Interesting post.I have been going to post something similar as I have quite a few false edged blades and have been considering sharpening the false edges to be as sharp as the main edge.Have EdgePro Apex model and don't think sharpenig the false edges will affect the tempering as they're water stones and don't expect much heat build up if any.Don't even care about decreasing collector value as I'm more interested in increasing blade performance.Never really understood unsharpened false edges anyway.Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You could do it yourself, just don't use power tools if you're not a knifemaker (and it doesn't sound like you are ;) ). I'd rather ask a custom knifemaker to sharpen it for me. Shouldn't be that expensive and it will be a clean job.

False edges can improve the appearance or balance of a knife, improve penetration by reducing cross-sectional area, or simply reduce the weight, in cases where the manufacturer doesn't want to make a double-edged knife or the customer doesn't want double edges.
