Hello guys, I have question about sharpening spyderco. I use spyderco sharp maker and use 40 degree angle. Last night, I sharpend small blade Dragonfly.
You know how brand new blade cutting edge has these nice vertical brushed lines from grinding. After I gives few rounds on the stone (not the flat side). The vertical lines are now kind ruined and mix with lines from different directions.
Not only on the cutting edge but also on top and in between cutting edge and the main blade body.

My question is. Is it unavoidable always gonna be like that when you sharpen a knife? Is it because of I didn't sharpen the knife carefully enough? Is the knife too small so it marks also got on top of cutting edge?
Not sure if there are things I need to pay attention or if it is unavoidable when you use your knife.

Thanks.

The 40 degree edge should only sharpen the microbevel, the very edge of the knife.

If the back bevel angle on your knife is too obtuse you may be hitting the shoulder or the main bevel causing your problem. (My dragonfly is like this as are several of my other Spydercos)

This should help:

I only use the 30 degree setting on my Spyderco knives and they get shaving sharp with little effort.
