I bought a RAT D2 a couple of months ago and it came with a chip and not a very consistent sharpening angle. i have tried to sharpen it and remove the chip with not much success with the limited materials I have on hand with me in Afghanistan. What would you fellow forummites recommend I do? Send it back and have it done right, or find someone willing to have it sent to "fix" it for me and re-mail it back to me?
thank you for your replies.

Send it back. I received my D2 TAK-1 with an uneven grind. (And, the slabs didn't fit the tang right.) It took me a long time with a diamond stone to fix it. Why should you have to fix a brand new knife?

I'm voting with Troop. Send it back. The uneven grind isn't all that uncommon among factory knives, but the chip should be handled by Ontario. They should send you a replacement, hopefully with a better grind too!

If you're in the Service in Afghanistan (or even remotely connected), let it be known that Stretch is very proud of what you're accomplishing there! And I'm far from alone. And don;t let CNN, ABC, CBS, MSNBC, or any other commy networks convince you otherwise!

we appreciate the support back home stretch, do you think that ontario would make it right with me even though i have tried to reset the bevel and work out the chip myself or do you think i should just hang on to it and wait till i get home to my supply of sharpening systems?

I think you explain your situation and they Ontario will take care of it .They are pretty good with their warrantys .Take care and be safe, we do care back here..Get the real news FOX...Mike

I don;t know what access you guys have to phones or email, but you should at least contact them and explain how it came and what you've done so far. Even if they don;t commit to anything, the way they reply will tell you alot about how they'll handle your problem.

I've decided to just keep the edge sharp and worry about the chip when I get home, or have the wife mail my diamond hones over here and just fix it myself. I really like the knife ALOT and don't want to send it off. Thanx for all the replies.
