Sharpen tip?

How the heck do you sharpen the TIP of a pointy knife? I have a Spyderco Sharpmaker, and can get the blades sufficiently sharp, but the tips of a few of my knives are sadly dull.

thanks

One thing to remember, when using the Sharpmaker, is when you reached the tip of the blade on the downward stroke, stop pulling the knife once the tip rests flat on the stone.

The tip will get dull if you let it snap off the stone. That's a mistake I learned the hard way, and had the very same question you're asking now.

I had a very sharp knife, but a rather blunt tip.

For a knife with an already blunt tip, well I guess the same applies. Sharpen the knife as you normally would, but stop pulling once the tip is halfway across the width of the stone.

With very little practice, you can maintain that needle-point tip. Good luck!

PS. Jackyl, nice spelling on that word, hehehe..

Instead of "pulling" the knife over the stone (where you may slip the point off) try to push it, starting with the point.
Sounds queer but works for a sharp point...

I don't think you will have this problem if you don't sharpen to the tip on the points of triangles. Sharpen the tips on the flats. Ideally you should have a 90-degree angle to edge.

Thanks for the suggestions! After working on one my knives last night a while, its tip is significantly sharper.
