Hi I was wondering the best way I might go about sharpening my 0551 without breaking my bank and with no time to learn a ridiculous process( not confident in sharpening on stones or the like) I dont want to send my baby off to Kershaw but if thats what it takes I will do it(its free)

PM: KnifeNut1013..he did my 0550..turned that factory grind to a mirror in no time, very reasonably priced as well.

I'm in NY, and I sent my knife to richardj to get worked on. Turnaround time was 5 days over thanksgiving. He did a much better job than I think I could have, and I'm very good at sharpening whether freehand, on paper wheels, or a guided system (WE).

Oh yeah, he charged me less than 10 bucks for his work and to ship it back, insured. I think the man just loves to work on knives, and his fee is there so people don't think it's being done for free. Might send him my REX121 mule to put handle scales on next.

Really Richard, $1 per inch !?! You're a noble man.

Get a spyderco sharpmaker, its easy to use, learn on and build your skills. I used to send my knives in once every other year for a factory touch up too. When you have gotten your basics down, its Apex time:-)

Wow thanks guys for the awesome replies. I may have to take you up on that offer richard! i will message you a bit later for more info. also best place to get spyderco sharpmaker? Im in Carmel Indiana

I would recommend Richard to anybody. He'll get your knife as sharp as anybody can and he's a great guy to deal with.

Here is the vid of that sharpening. I encourage anyone willing to learn to give sharpening a chance, with simple teaching it becomes easier than most think.

I am unable to perform any sharpening work currently as I am in New York cleaning up after Sandy.
