Ok, I don't know if this has ever been suggested or even done before and I didn't know how to search for it so here it is:

What if the bottom of the horns of a bali were sharpened blades. The closed bali could be used as a kubotan and a nice small blade for biomechanical cutting. Wouldn't that make a nice little self defense martial arts weapon?

it could be done, but there would be a few problems: it wouldn't be too easy to carry because you couldn't carry it in your pocket and it might cut up a sheath (unless it was concealex). you'd also be limited in how many and what tricks you could do. you couldn't do any finger roll-overs and it'd generally be more of a danger to you.

it really all depends on what you do with your bali

Yeah, I could get a custom Kydex made for it. I wouldn't worry about the carry problem too much.

But about the techniques, the limitation wouldn't be that great. I could still imagine doing finger rolls with it. But anyway I wouldn't worry about that either because I would intend that as a self defense carry and not really a user. And I don't think I would use any finger rolls during a self defense situation.

Sharpening the horns as blades is a something I have not, myself, seen. But, I have seen them brought to a non-sharpened point to make them more effective as a striking or pain-compliance weapon. With a little help from a Dremel tool, you could probably do this on a 42 if you wanted too.
