Double edged yes. Mostly because it would be cool and remind me of a jambiya. It would definitely cut down its usefulness quite a bit for everything besides martial arts.Sharpened? How? Like a double edged knife? How do you see the usefulness of your knife increasing by doing so? Not agreeing or disagreeing, just curious on your thought process on this.
Besides martial arts and your chance of some cool stitchesDouble edged yes. Mostly because it would be cool and remind me of a jambiya. It would definitely cut down its usefulness quite a bit for everything besides martial arts.
Hey, pain heals, chicks dig scars, but glory...lasts forever...Besides martial arts and your chance of some cool stitches![]()
Very true about limited uses. The 5 is such a useful knife, i think i will keep it as is. A backup in case something happens to my other one. It would be a very cool project and the idea of a modern jambiya with all the attributes of a good becker is appealing but... ever since it has become hard to find the 5 i havent used it as hard as i should. Always in the back of my mind i think “what if i break it!” Kind of lame, but true. As far as how useful a weapon it would be, hopefully i would never need to find out! My guess is it would shift the balance a little more towards the handle, other than that, i really cant say it would improve much besides being able to cut from both sides.Gotcha. Had to look up jambiya. I can see the resemblance now.
It’d be a cool project for sure, and it’d definitely make it a one of a kind. My one and only concern would be how effective it would really be as a martial weapon. Is the handle design conducive to the multiple grips necessary? How would the balance be affected from the grinding? Would Jerry Fisk show up unannounced one day and give you trouble? Would it be a weapon, or just a weapon shaped object?
A smaller point would be that, since this is a discontinued knife, a drastic grind job on it might not be the best idea. Not that big of a deal for me personally, but something to think about.
In the end, it’s your knife, and I’m sure
you don’t need any keyboard warriors telling you what to do. I gotta admit, as much as I’m not a big fan of “limited usefulness” knives, I’d be interested in seeing on how it’d turn out. Make sure to take lots of pics!

You can always count on me to encourage you to do something stupid....sharpen that beeyotch!
Will you sharpen the whole spine or just like the front 1/4 or 1/3?
If I was caught with a double edged knife in mass I would be spending the night in jail and calling my lawyer when and if my wife bailed me out but man that knife would look cool. If you go threw with it please post some pics

Persuasive arguments... I’ll see if I can find a 3rd at a reasonable price...it's been done before (to a 15 as well) -- go for it.
don't forget to post pictures!
No knife fights for me!Well, not really good for 'martial arts' - good for actual knife-fighting with humans, maybe. If you got the skillz. But do you have any expectation of ever actually knife-fighting with humans? Maybe you shouldn't tell us. Because for training it sounds like a terrible idea to have one live edge, let alone two. Or for pig-sticking. Not many people actually do that, but maybe you do?
My dream Becker would be a 2-footer BK5. haha!
